'The food, has, on every occasion, been excellent, the staff efficient'.
'The combination of flavours were superb'.
'Service, food, wine - the LOT! - were exceptional.'
St. Andrews has a charm of its own with its cobble stones, the sound of pipes, the sense of history and the buzz of young students from all over the world contribute to a place that feels alive and safe to walk around.
There are many cafes and eating places and most are unique in what they offer. None more so than the Doll's House. This quaint little place is full of atmosphere and feels just right. The young staff are friendly attentive and look as if they enjoy their work (something that is sadly not so common today!).
The menu is varied and offers a choice that will satisfy all palates. We went in for the set menu for just over £12 for starter, main course and a wine or beer.
I ordered the soup which came with ample french bread - again in many places you are offered one little bit of bread! After the starter I ordered the Chicken dish, which came with fresh vegetables and a creamy mash. The sauce was incredibly tasty and the whole meal was very enjoyable. My wife had the mackerel as a starter and also the Chicken.
The house red wine was served at the right temperature and was one of the best house wines I have tasted.
All I can say is that you will not be disappointed if you eat in the Doll's House. But it is better to book first!
Well done Doll's House - I will be back.

"reliably good international cuisine with a French flair"

We in events do often get requests from clients looking for an off site alternative for dinner. We do always suggest the Dolls House as our past experience shows that guests have always had a great night with you.
Marianne Dombrower, Head of Event Sales and Planning, Fairmont St Andrews
'This rather cool St Andrews hot spot is as sophisticated as any London neighbourhood bistro.
The atmospheric interior is a pleasingly evocative blend of cosy childhood memento and French brasserie... Noteworthy is the winelist, divided into sections according to weight, body and complexity... Weekly changing menus keep interest levels high and additional evening blackboard specials leave diners spoilt for choice.'
The List
I must say straightaway that the excellent value for money was not compromised by either service, surroundings or quality of food. Everything about the dining experience at the Doll's House was first rate.
All the while the youthful staff went about their business with efficiency and a smile, ensuring that the whole Doll's House experience was one to be remembered and, I dare say, repeated in the not too distant future.
Our bill came to a very respectable £61.25 - fantastic value for money which I would challenge other restaurants to match. Three adult meals, wine and a proper grown-up children's meal for a price designed to get families out to dinner.
I cannot recommend The Doll's House highly enough - if you're ever at the home of golf, make sure you drop by.

The moment that I stepped into the Doll's House I was immediately aware of the relaxed, informal ambience that many places try to obtain but never quite reach. Although arriving 30 minutes early for our reservation we were placed at our table with efficient hospitality.
I opted for a salad of salmon with crayfish and red onion dressing. The portion was pleasingly understated. My main course of lamb wrapped in bacon was filled with gorgonzola cheese again, it was presented in a competent and unfussy manner.
The Doll's House is a very comfortable, welcoming restaurant where the food is most enjoyable and reasonably priced, it is the perfect place for couples or groups of friends to have a super relaxed evening dining experience - I will be back and definitely recommend to friends and colleagues.

'Starters that day included a salad composed of proper roast duck - not packet slices - with strawberries, black pepper and a citrus vinaigrette The gossamer plaice fillets dissolved on the tongue and were happily not overwhelmed by a light butter sauce that included vanilla, lemon and almonds.'
Neil MacLean - The Sunday Times
'My main course was presented - quite a large plate, the chicken pieces in the middle surrounded by a light sauce and garnished with some herby looking things. My potatoes and veg came on a side plate and were cooked to perfection. The chicken was tender and tasty and the sauce complemented the dish very well I couldn't resist the sticky toffee pudding advertised on the chalk board. It came with a cream sauce around it and a halved strawberry on top and was dusted with a light chocolate powder. Yum!'
